Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Partner Hidden Worlds, Win Travel Weekly Gold Award

Nassau, BAHAMAS (16 Nov. 2023) – The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation (BMOTIA) and partner Hidden Worlds Entertainment are the winners of this year’s Travel Weekly Magellan Gold Award in the Hospitality Marketing category for Live Installation and Activation Programme. Winners of the premier travel industry award were recently announced. The winning project titled “Our Ocean, Our Future” featured an immersive marine journey highlighting ocean conservation efforts in The Bahamas.

Entries for the Magellan Awards were submitted from across the globe as the Awards salute the best in the travel industry by paying tribute to outstanding design, marketing and services in a broad range of industry segments that include: Airlines and Airports; Cruise Lines; Hospitality; Online Travel Services; and Travel Destinations.

“We are honoured to be recognised as the winner of this year’s Gold Award in Hospitality Marketing by travel industry experts at Travel Weekly Magellan Awards,” said the Hon. I. Chester Cooper, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation.

“As an island nation, having our industry counterparts recognise our continuing efforts to protect the vast ocean that surrounds us and sea creatures that make up its ecosystem, provides a very proud moment for us all,” he said.

Hidden Worlds Entertainment is a cutting-edge company that develops immersive attractions to promote planet stewardship and ocean conservation efforts. In February of this year, BMOTIA collaborated with Hidden Worlds to launch an 18-day oceanic educational adventure in Miami, Florida to shine a spotlight on the importance of protecting and preserving the ocean. The immersive project allowed for the display of multi-room art exhibits that showcased ocean conservation themed artwork from Bahamian professional artists as well as art displays from Bahamian high school students; a Junkanoo inspired mural and underwater shark photography by a Bahamian cinematographer. The project   concluded in early March.

A percentage of ticket sales from the event was donated to Beneath the Waves, a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting ocean health using science and technology to catalyse ocean policy and protect threatened species – including their Blue Carbon Project and Shark Tagging efforts in The Bahamas.

“This Gold Award underscores the fact that The Islands of The Bahamas is an eco-friendly destination,” said Latia Duncombe, Director General, BMOTIA.

“At the Ministry of Tourism, we are adamant about leading by example with sustainable tourism efforts in our 16-island destination. We are indeed honoured for this recognition that demonstrates to the world that we are serious about doing our part to protect our oceans.”

Winners are featured in an issue of Travel Weekly and will also receive a custom produced statuette.
